Woman alleges ping-pong balls fell onto skating rink on cruise ship, caused fall

Cruise 06

MIAMI – A Rhode Island woman alleges she was injured while skating on a cruise ship.

Doreen O'Malley filed a complaint on April 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Miami Division against Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 27, 2016, she suffered a serious ankle fracture while roller skating aboard the defendant's Anthem of the Seas when ping-pong balls fell onto the roller skating rink. The plaintiff holds Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to use reasonable practices to keep foreign objects from falling onto the skating surface.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of this Court, plus interest and costs. She is represented by Tom Pennekamp of Pennekamp Law PA in Miami.
