TAMPA – An African-American woman alleges she faced discriminatory treatment by her former employer.

Lanice K. Glover filed a complaint on March 29 in the Tampa Division of the Middle District of Florida against Homegoods Inc. alleging race discrimination and retaliation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was hired as a customer service coordinator at the defendant's Dale Mabry Walters Crossing branch in April 2012. She alleges she was repeatedly passed over for promotions because of her race.

The plaintiff holds Homegoods Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly interfered with employee's contractual right to enjoy the same benefits and privileges as other employees and retaliated against her by terminating her employment in May 2015 because she filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The plaintiff seeks punitive damages, attorney's fees, costs, reinstatement or front pay, and further relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Frank M. Malatesta of Malatesta Law Office in Venice.
