MIAMI – A woman alleges she injured her knee because a water spill had not been properly cleaned up on a cruise ship.

Sherri Smothers filed a complaint on March 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Carnival Corp., doing business as Carnival Cruise Lines, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 4, 2016, while she was aboard defendant's vessel the Carnival Dream as a paying passenger, she sustained severe bodily injury, including a meniscal tear of her right knee that required surgery, when she accidentally slipped and fell on a puddle of water that a staff of the defendant failed to clean up properly.

The plaintiff holds Carnival Corp., doing business as Carnival Cruise Lines, responsible because the defendant's staff allegedly failed to properly, adequately and/or completely clean up the spilled water, and failed to warn plaintiff and other invitees of the hazardous conditions.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for damages against the defendant, and for such other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Daniel M. Grissom of Stabinski & Funt PA in Miami.
