Woman alleges she was burned on cruise ship by hot coffee

MIAMI – A Norwegian Escape passenger alleges she was injured because of hot coffee.

Vivian Hernandez filed a complaint on March 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against NCL (Bahamas) LTD, doing business as NCL America Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 20, 2016, while plaintiff was on board defendant's vessel, she sustained a second-degree burn to her hand when she poured hot coffee from a canister with a missing lid. She alleges the incident caused severe injury to her hand and caused disability, pain and suffering, mental anguish and lost earnings.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant, costs and further relief the court deem just. She is represented by Mario Serralta of Mario Serralta & Associates in Miami Lakes.
