Passenger blames cruise ship company for injuries

MIAMI — A Canadian passenger is suing Norwegian Cruise Lines, alleging negligence led to injuries to the plaintiff.

James Betterley filed a complaint March 1 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida Miami Division against NCL (Bahamas) Ltd., doing business as Norwegian Cruise Lines, alleging failure failed to keep the floor of their ship free of any slippery substance.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 1, 2016, he suffered physical injuries when he slipped and fell on MS Norwegian Getaway. The plaintiff alleges Norwegian Cruise Lines failed to warn the plaintiff regarding the slippery substance that was left on the floor.

Betterley seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages of at least $75,000 and all legal fees. He is represented by attorneys Philip M. Gerson, Nicholas I. Gerson, Edward S. Schwartz and David Markel of Gerson & Schwartz PA in Miami.
