MIAMI – A Louisiana woman alleges she was injured on a cruise ship after she slipped and fell near a buffet area.

Leonita Liu filed a complaint on Feb. 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Carnival Corp. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 9, 2016, she was a fare-paying passenger aboard defendant's cruise ship the Carnival Dream when she slipped and fell due to a slippery substance on the floor in the general area of a buffet. As a result, she alleges she suffered injuries, resulting in pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of earnings and medical and nursing care, treatment and expenses.

The plaintiff holds Carnival Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to put slip-resistant mats down on the floor, failed to implement reasonable procedures for cleaning up the floor and failed to warn passengers of such slipping hazards at or around the area.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for more than $75,000, plus costs of this action. She is represented by David W. Singer of David W. Singer & Associates PA in Hollywood.
