Atlas IP LLC alleges Teco Energy, others are infringing patent with smart meters

FORT LAUDERDALE – A Miami company alleges its patented technology is being used in smart meters.

Atlas IP LLC filed a complaint on Jan. 20 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Teco Energy Inc., Tampa Electric Co. and New Mexico Gas Co. alleging patent infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages to its business from having its patented design used. The plaintiff holds Teco Energy Inc., Tampa Electric Co. and New Mexico Gas Co. responsible because the defendants allegedly infringed at least one claim of plaintiff's '734 patent through their smart meters and other smart grid technologies.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages, supplemental damages, interest and any other relief as this court deems just. It is represented by Michael C. Cesarano of Michael C. Cesarano PA in Coral Gables.
