Law money 01

TAMPA – A former broker assistant for a Pinellas County alleges she was not compensated for overtime work.

Sandra Thompson filed a complaint on behalf of others similarly situated on Jan. 9 in the Tampa Division of the Middle District of Florida against Brown & Brown Inc. alleging violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she worked for more than 40 hours per week without being paid overtime compensation. The suit states she was employed by the defendant from 2006 to 2016. The plaintiff holds Brown & Brown Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to pay the plaintiff overtime premium at the legal rate of one-half her regular rate of pay.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks payment of all overtime wages, liquidated damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Marc R. Edelman of Morgan & Morgan, P.A. in Tampa.
