Insurance 11

TAMPA – A man alleges his insurer wrongfully denied his claim for disability benefits.

Christopher Chapman filed a complaint on Dec. 23 in the Tampa Division for the Middle District of Florida against Life Insurance Co. of North America alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was covered under an employer-sponsored employee welfare benefit plan which provided long-term disability insurance benefits, funded and administered by the defendant. However, when plaintiff became disabled under ERISA definition, the defendant allegedly refused to pay him the sums due and subjected him to an unreasonable claims process.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant, reinstatement of benefits, ancillary benefits, interest, costs, attorney's fees and other relief as may be just. He is represented by William S. Coffman Jr. of Coffman Law in Tampa.
