Regions Bank accused of illegal collections practices

Phone 04

TAMPA — A woman is suing Regions Bank, a debt collector, alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act.

Sharon Bales filed a complaint on Dec. 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida against Regions Bank, alleging that the debt collector called the plaintiff about 400 times after being told not to call.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in May, she revoked permission for the defendant to call her, but calls continued. The plaintiff holds Regions Bank responsible because the defendant allegedly used an automatic telephone dialing system, sometimes called several times in a day, and continued to call after permission was revoked.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks statutory damages, punitive damages, actual damages, all legal fees plus interest and any other relief as this court deems just. She is represented by Amy Ferrera of Morgan & Morgan, Tampa, P.A. in Tampa.
