FORT LAUDERDALE – A Broward County man alleges his disability benefits were wrongfully terminated.

Guido Conegliano filed a complaint on Dec. 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2015, he became disabled due to having a brain injury, broken pelvis and other physical injuries. The suit states he was initially approved for disability benefits but was later terminated in June 2016. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Co. of America responsible because the defendant allegedly upheld its decision to terminate plaintiff's disability benefits despite the plaintiff satisfying all conditions that entitle him to benefits.

The plaintiff seeks pay all benefits due to him plus interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Alicia Paulino-Grisham and Maggie Smith of DI Law Group in Fort Lauderdale.
