MIAMI — A consumer is suing Select Portfolio Servicing Inc., a debt collector, citing alleged violation of telephone harassment statutes.
Renade Grant filed a complaint on Dec. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Select Portfolio Servicing Inc., alleging that the debt collector called the plaintiff's cellular telephone hundreds of times in an attempt to collect an alleged debt.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he suffered damages from receiving several collection calls, with 350 such calls coming after his demand that the calls stop. The plaintiff holds Select Portfolio Servicing Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly used an automatic telephone dialing system to call the plaintiff.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks $1,000 in statutory damages, actual damages, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by Jordan A. Shaw of Zebersky Payne, LLP in Ft. Lauderdale.
