MIAMI – A Broward County woman alleges that a debt collector attempted to collect a debt from her despite not having necessary licensure to collect in Florida.

Nadera Saleh filed a complaint on Sept. 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Collecto Inc. alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2016, the defendant mailed her a letter in an attempt to collect an alleged debt. The plaintiff holds Collecto Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly does not have a licensure to collect in the state and that the letter did not advise that the debt is time-barred and that making a payment would revive the statute of limitations.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks statutory and actual damages, injunction, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. She is represented by Jibrael S. Hindi of The Law Offices of Jibrael S. Hindi in Fort Lauderdale.
