Man alleges bar stool broke, caused injuries while on Carnival cruise

MIAMI – A California resident alleges a broken bar stool caused him injures while on a cruise.

Sasquatch Durgin filed a complaint on Sept. 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida Miami Division against Carnival Corp., doing business as Carnival Cruise Lines; unknown manufacturer of bar stool and parts; and unknown retailer of bar stool and parts, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 4, 2015, he suffered physical injuries when the base of the stool he was sitting on at the pool bar suddenly broke. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly inspect and maintain the installed bar stools.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in the amount of $500,000, special damages, economic damages, general damages, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Richard Birkenwald in Hollywood.
