Passenger alleges staircase caused her to fall, suffer injuries

Cruise 10

MIAMI – A Chicago woman alleges a hazardous staircase on a cruise ship caused her to fall.

Celestine Shores filed a complaint on Sept. 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Carnival Corp., doing business as Carnival Cruise Line, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 2, she sustained physical injuries, including a torn quadriceps tendon, when the heels of her sandals got caught on the lip molding of a staircase and caused her to fall. The plaintiff holds Carnival Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide adequate warning regarding the hazardous condition of the lip molding on the staircase.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages, medical expenses, all legal fees and interest, and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Spencer Aronfeld and Matthias M. Hayashi of Aronfeld Trial Lawyers in Coral Gables.
