JACKSONVILLE — An individual has filed suit against the state of Florida and a sheriff's office for alleged violation of his human rights after he allegedly was arrested without a warrant and imprisoned for eight days without proof of any wrongdoing, then released.
Neil Andre Butler filed a complaint Sept. 12 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Jacksonville Division, against the state of Florida and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, alleging that they wrongfully arrested the plaintiff without any cause.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 26, 2012, he suffered damages and great shame when he was wrongfully arrested and imprisoned for eight days. The plaintiff holds the state of Florida and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responsible because the defendants allegedly arrested the plaintiff without any warrant.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in the amount of $14,400,000 plus $10,000 for legal fees. The plaintiff is representing himself.
