Woman alleges she suffered concussion while on cruise ship

Cruise 02

MIAMI – A St. Louis woman alleges a broken handle caused her to fall while on a cruise ship and injure her head.

Shirlee Hudson Williams filed a complaint on Sept. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida Miami Division against Carnival Corp., doing business as Carnival Cruise Line, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 10, 2015, she sustained physical injuries when the door handle from her balcony door suddenly detached, causing her to fall backward and hit her head against the balcony rail. She alleges the incident caused her to suffer a concussion and traumatic brain injury. The plaintiff holds Carnival Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly inspect the door handles of its facility and make necessary repairs when needed.

The plaintiff seeks damages, economic damages, all legal fees and interest plus any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by John H. Hickey of Hickey Law Firm PA in Miami.
