MIAMI — A group has filed a class-action lawsuit against a school that teaches English to non-native speakers for alleged unpaid overtime wages.

Kayla A. Luckett filed a complaint on behalf of herself and other similarly situated individuals Aug. 31 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Miami Division, against Rennert Miami LLC, doing business as Rennert South Beach, alleging that the employer violated the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that from June 18 to Aug. 5,, named plaintiff Kayla A. Luckett was employed by the defendant as a program coordinator at the language school, where she worked in excess of 40 hours per week. After Luckett complained to her supervisor, she allegedly was terminated.

The plaintiffs hold Rennert Miami LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to inform employees of their federal rights to overtime wage payments, failed to maintain accurate and complete time records of hours worked by employees and failed to uphold employees' rights to overtime wages.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendant, attorney fees, costs, expenses, back pay and other benefits and additional relief as the court may deem appropriate. They are represented by Zandro E. Palma of Zandro E. Palma PA in Miami.
