Business claims National Union Fire Insurance Company allegedly withheld insurance reimbursement

Insurance 06

JACKSONVILLE — A Delaware corporation has filed suit against an insurance company for allegedly withholding reimbursement, which violates its insurance policy.

Crowley Maritime Corporation filed a complaint on Aug. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Jacksonville Division, against National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh PA, citing alleged breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Crowley Maritime Corporation was issued an executive and organization liability insurance policy by the defendant that provided coverage for claims made against any insured, including defense costs. The plaintiff alleges that the defendant refused to honor its contractual obligations, which caused damages to the plaintiff in an amount exceeding $2,500,000.

The plaintiff holds National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh PA responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to reimburse defense costs incurred by the plaintiff.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in its favor, award damages, interest, attorneys' fees, costs of action and other relief as the court deems appropriate. It is represented by John D. Shugrue, Thomas A. Marrinson and Emily E. Garrison of Reed Smith LLP in Chicago and Charles B. Lembcke of Law Offices of Charles B. Lembcke PA in Jacksonville.
