NEW PORT RICHEY – A woman alleges a pressure cooker exploded and caused severe burns on her body.

Anne Marie Harkins filed a complaint on Aug. 18 in the 6th Judicial Circuit Court for Pasco County against Pike Five Imports Inc., doing business as Maxi-matic USA, and Guangdong Tredy Electric Co. LTD citing strict liability, breach of express warranty, negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 14, 2012, she was using the pressure cooker distributed by Pick Five and manufactured by Guangdong when it malfunctioned, which caused severe burns across her body. The plaintiff holds Pick Five Imports Inc. and Guangdong Tredy Electric Co. LTD responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly design, manufacture and distribute the product; failed to place adequate warnings and instructions and failed to adequately test the product.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants, damages of more than $15,000, interest, taxable costs and other relief that may be entitled. She is represented by Thomas D. Roebig Jr., Shaun M. Cummings, Nicholas L. Ottaviano, Luca G. Esposito and Chase P. Florin of Florin Roebig PA in Palm Harbor.
