Law money 02

TAMPA – A store manager for a nationwide coffee chain has filed a class-action suit alleging she was not paid overtime wages while working at a Tampa location.

Lacey Smith filed a complaint on behalf of all others similarly situated on Aug. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida against Starbucks Coffee Co., alleging violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she worked for more than 40 hours per workweek without being paid any overtime wages. The plaintiff holds Starbucks Coffee Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to pay plaintiff at a rate of time-and-one-half for hours worked that exceeded 40 hours per week.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks unpaid overtime wages, liquidated damages equal to the unpaid overtime wages, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Brandon J. Hill of Wenzel Fenton Cabassa PA in Tampa.
