ORLANDO — A man has filed a claim against Life Insurance Company of North America (CIGNA) for allegedly denying his disability payments in accordance with his disability policy.
George Ryden filed a complaint on Aug. 8 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division, against Life Insurance Company of North America (CIGNA), alleging that the insurance company failed to uphold the rights of a person with a disability.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 25, 2013, he was declared disabled and stopped working due to rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia syndrome with synovitis in the hands and fingers. The plaintiff claims he received benefits from defendant from Aug.25, 2013, up until Aug. 24, 2015. The plaintiff claims he has continued to meet the definition of disability as defined by the policy and was also supported by his treating physicians. The plaintiff holds Life Insurance Company of North America (CIGNA) responsible because the defendant allegedly failed and refused to pay sums due pursuant to the terms of the plaintiff's long-term disability plan.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks right to benefits from Aug. 25, 2015, and continuing, attorney's fees and costs of litigation. He is represented by Nancy L. Cavey of Law Offices of Nancy L. Cavey in St. Petersburg.
