Phone 09

MIAMI – A Broward County man alleges he was harassed in an attempt to collect an alleged debt.

Stephen DeTata filed a complaint on Aug. 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Verizon Wireless Personal Communications LP alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Florida Consumer Protection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he suffered damages as the result of being called 35 times by the defendant in an attempt to collect a purported debt since June 2015. The plaintiff holds Verizon Wireless Personal Communications LP responsible because the defendant allegedly used an automatic telephone dialing system in contacting plaintiff despite his request to stop calling him.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual damages, statutory damages, punitive damages, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by Stephen DeTata of DeTata Law Group PA in Davie.
