Copyright infringement suit filed against makeup artist Jaclyn Hill

Copyright 04

TAMPA – A graphic designer alleges a friend and makeup artist used his designs without compensating him.

Mathew Chase Gilbert filed a complaint on May 5 in the Tampa Division of the Middle District of Florida against Jaclyn Hill, Jaclyn Hill LLC & Jaclyn Hill Cosmetics LLC alleging copyright infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he did not receive any compensation for all the logo, branding and artistic designs he made for the defendant's makeup business. The plaintiff holds Jaclyn Hill, Jaclyn Hill LLC & Jaclyn Hill Cosmetics LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly exploited his trust and asked him to sign a work-for-hire agreement in exchange for $10, claimed that she owned plaintiff's work by virtue of the signed agreement and displayed and continue to display images and derivative images on her website and other internet sites.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks temporary and permanent injunction preventing and restraining infringement of his artwork and design, requiring defendants to destroy all images and artworks in their possession, compensation for all damages, attorney's fees and such other relief as the court deems just and proper. He is represented by Keith Hanenian of Cristal Hanenian PA in Tampa.
