ORLANDO – A driver is suing his former employers over allegations that he is owed unpaid wages.

Joel Chaparro filed a complaint on May 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division against Brevard Extraditions Inc. and U.S. Prisoner Transport Inc. alleging that they violated the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and Florida common law.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between September 2015 and March, he was not paid the applicable minimum wage for all hours that he worked. The plaintiff holds Brevard Extraditions Inc. and U.S. Prisoner Transport Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to pay all wages owed to him, including for two weeks employment in January, and willfully disregarded the provisions of the FLSA.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants stating that their violation of the law was willful, compensation for all damages, attorney's fees and costs and for such further relief as the court deems just and proper. He is represented by Luis A. Cabassa of Wenzel Fenton Cabassa PA in Tampa.
