TAMPA – A Caucasian male alleges he was subject to discrimination at his workplace and was terminated in retaliation of reporting it.

Charles Randal filed a complaint on April 20 in the Tampa Division of the Middle District of Florida against Intrepid Powerboats Inc. alleging that the former employer violated the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between August 2006 and Oct. 22, 2015, he worked for defendant in the pre-assembly department. In March 2015, the suit states his supervisor gave him a new lock with no instructions to install it on a boat door. In an attempt to find a workable schematic, he alleges he conducted additional research on his own time that led to purchasing new tools, but nothing worked. On Oct. 22, 2015, he met with an engineer to discuss the lock installation details, but the engineer provided no alternative solution. At the end of the meeting, the engineer allegedly stated that he has had thousands of locks installed by an Asian. The plaintiff states he complained about the comment and his manager accused him of being disrespectful and terminated him.

As a direct and proximate result, the plaintiff alleges he has suffered damages, lost wages and benefits, emotional distress and loss of dignity. The plaintiff holds Intrepid Powerboats Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected him to discrimination and performance appraisal based on race, terminated him for engaging in protected activity and replaced him with a less-qualified individual.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks injunctive relief and reinstatement, compensation for damages, emotional distress, attorney's fees, prejudgment interest and any other relief that the court may deem just and proper. He is represented by Brian Calciano of Themis Law Group LLP in St. Petersburg.
