American Grill alleged to have not paid employees overtime wages

Law money 01

ORLANDO – A gate guard has filed a class-action lawsuit against her former employer over claims she is owed unpaid wages.

Shanice Rivers filed a complaint on behalf of others similarly situated on April 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida against American Grill Inc., alleging violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between March 12, 2013, and January 2015, she did not receive overtime premiums for all extra hours worked. The plaintiff holds American Grill Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly compensate her at a rate of time-and-one-half of her regular rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a week and paid her straight time only.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for unpaid wages, liquidated damages, prejudgment interest, attorney's fees and costs and for such further relief that the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Yolando A. Hewling of Farah & Farah PA in Jacksonville.
