Sebring woman alleges she was terminated because of her race

FORT MYERS – An African-American woman from Sebring is suing her former employer over allegations she was terminated because of her race.

Sharkica Harris filed a complaint on March 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Fort Myers Division against Geo Care LLC, citing alleged racial discrimination and retaliation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she worked for the defendant from 2001 to 2013. The plaintiff holds Geo Care LLC responsible because she allegedly was routinely searched upon entry to the facility where employees of other races were not. The suit states she was terminated on Dec. 3, 2013.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for back pay and liquidated damages; reinstatement; attorneys' fees and costs; and any relief as may be appropriate. She is represented by Kevin F. Sanderson of Kevin F. Sanderson Chartered in Osprey.
