Former store clerk sues over alleged wage violations

Time

MIAMI — A former store clerk has filed a class-action suit against three defendants, alleging violation of minimum-wage and overtime law.

Hossain Mohammed Shakhawat filed suit on March 8 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Asha Quik Mart Inc., East Coast Investment Inc. and Naresh Bhasin, alleging that they violated the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The plaintiff alleges that, between August 5, 2015, and February 29, 2016, he did not receive the required federal minimum wage rate and overtime premium for all hours worked. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to pay the applicable minimum wage rate and also failed to pay time and a half of his regular rate for each hour worked in excess of 40 per workweek.

The plaintiff seeks compensation for double damages, reasonable attorney's fees and costs. He is represented by J.H. Zidell of J.H. Zidell, P.A. in Miami Beach.
