Cruise passenger claims negligence in elevator mishap

Carnival

MIAMI — A Hernando County woman is suing Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., claiming she suffered severe, debilitating injuries when an elevator on the cruise ship Enchantment of the Seas suddenly dropped several floors before coming to an abrupt stop.

Vita Tippett sued Royal Caribbean on Feb. 16 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida Miami Division, citing alleged negligence, failure to warn and failure to maintain premises in a reasonably safe condition.

The plaintiff alleges that, on Feb. 19, 2015, she suffered severe injuries as a result of the sudden jolt and abrupt stop of the elevator. The plaintiff holds Royal Caribbean responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to warn and/or use reasonable care to protect its passengers from dangerous situations.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for damages, interest and costs for this action and any other relief that the court may deem just and appropriate. She is represented by Frank D. Butler of Frank D. Butler, P.A. in Pinellas Park, Florida.
