Bartender sues employer for allegedly unpaid wages

Gavel money2

MIAMI – A bartender is suing his former employer over allegations of unpaid wages.

James White filed a class-action lawsuit against Swampy's Bar & Grill Dunnellon LLC and Carlos Sanchez on Feb. 18 in the Tampa Division of the Middle District of Florida alleging that they knowingly violated the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, between May 2014 and November 2015, he did not receive proper minimum wage and overtime compensation as allowed by law. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to pay the required minimum wage and time-and-one-half of his regular rate of pay for each hour worked over 40 hours per work week.

The plaintiff seeks the following: liquidated damages, attorney's fees and costs and any further relief that the court may deem just and proper. He is represented by Matthew R. Gunter of Morgan & Morgan, P.A. in Orlando in Florida.
