Man claims harassment by debt collector

Cellphone

ORLANDO — A Marion County man is suing a Texas debt collector, claiming violation of federal and Florida telephone-harassment laws.

John Anderson sued on Feb. 18 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida Orlando Division, claiming that Selene Finance LP made about 2,000 automated calls to his cell phone since August 2014, despite his request during one of the first calls that he not be contacted.

Anderson claims Selene Finance violated the federal Telephone Consumer Act and the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for actual, punitive and statutory damages, attorneys' fees and costs and any further relief that the court may deem just and proper. He is represented by Jared M. Lee of Morgan & Morgan, Tampa, P.A. in Tampa in Florida.
